lil miss magic

Etsy user Magicmiss sent me the cutest accessories to style and share with y'all, and I couldn't be more in love with what I've received. Not only did Roi @ Magicmiss send me a lovely sailor moon necklace, and 2 bone clips ( which you can get here ), but she even made me a custom pin for my fur baby ROCOCO! I know y'all will dig these goodies and the rest on her etsy as much as I do.  Also! this dress is from  Trinity Place Dept Store , which I've talked about in a previous post! You can find the dress here , I got it in a UK size 14. Needless to say, it was a stellar mail week!

An Ode to Androgyny

Leslie Feinberg, a trans* activist and author, wrote that "gender is the poetry each of us makes out of the language we are taught". It's true, I was taught to see the world in opposites - to embrace the side to which I was assigned, to celebrate the delicate nature of my body, my voice, my mind.  I was taught not to question why I ought never cross the dividing line. I was taught that those who do are vulnerable to criticism, to ridicule, to violence.  I was taught a language of division. Female and male; feminine and masculine. The way one looks, talks is importantly distinct from another; a pink balloon to greet my infant welcome, while the blue awaits my brother. This is an ode to the poetry of gender. An ode to androgyny - to the space between extremes.  Although I still remain on the feminine 'side' in most aspects of my appearance and identity, and in the eyes of society (which grants me a great deal of privilege), I am perpetually inspired by t...

anxiety

anxiety is a cold blanket that covers me at night; i'm not allowed to sleep, i'm not allowed to stop thinking.  i'm only allowed to dwell, to lie with eyes open to watch the clouds move and wonder why time always feels so heavy  anxiety is also heat; it's sweat dripping down the length of my back mid-sentence it's a hot crowded dirty room i can't leave so i spend the whole night in the corner, or  i never leave my bed the feeling that you're being watched or worse that no one can see you

I'm dreaming of a leather satchel

I'm sure it's no surprise that my wandering eye (a.k.a the part of me that online shops regardless of the ever-decreasing $ in my bank/ever-increasing student loans) tends to gravitate toward bright colors. But recently I've begun to notice my taste has taken a turn toward quality, too. I no longer want to spend less money on cheaper clothes/bags/shoes that will fall apart in a month. Quality means you can own things longer, ultimately saving money if it lasts long enough, and the more you wear something well/hand-made, the more it feels like yours . Rather than falling apart or pilling or stretching or staining - I now own a small number of pieces that age like a fine wine. (I don't like wine, so let's change that to a fine cheese).  Anyway, the latest bag to give me heart-eyes is the leather satchel from Trinity Place Department Store (in NYC). The best part of this bag is that it's real leather, it's hand-crafted, will last years and year - AND IT ...
